My first time

Monday saw me running Stobie for the first time at Agility. After watching and photographing many of the handlers in action over the past months, now was the time to see if I had actually being paying attention! Jill was on the mainland attending a training course, but keen that Stobie should have his Monday night run. Her instructions were simple:

  • No contact equipment
  • Don’t break the dog

With a parting comment of “Don’t worry Cathy will keep it simple” I was lulled into that false sense of security of being a new handler with a trained dog. Well actually I wasn’t,as I knew Cathy would set up a course that was achievable, with training,by all abilities, both handler and dog.

The course was intriguingly simple to look at but featured both front and rear crosses. To say I got a bit confused on my first run would be an understatement. But then after breaking down the route and practicing in stages under Cathy’s guidance it all came together on the last run. Well it nearly did,I managed to get too far ahead of Stobie for the last two jumps so he ‘flattened them’ whilst trying to catch up. At least I know what went wrong.

Time to go back to my photography again….
